It’s interesting how the Lord works sometimes. Kelly and I have been volunteering in the Alzheimer’s ward and I was telling my mom last night about all the new friends we have made. While I was in the middle of a story Mom interrupted me and asked if Kelly was home. Since mom is planning our family trip to Florida I thought she wanted to talk to us both at the same time about our flight information. However, when mom’s voice changed and said she needed to discuss something with us I knew it had nothing to do with flight plans. After a little coaxing I convinced her that she needed to tell me whatever it was now and could speak with Kelly, who is my cousin if I haven’t mentioned that yet, later. Mom began to tell me how my grandpa Gapo was diagnosed with medium Alzheimer’s yesterday morning. I couldn’t believe it! I called my grandma Emma right away to speak with her about things that she needs. We had a good cry together and I let her know how much I love them both. Even writing this makes me cry. This man has influenced my life since I was born. He introduced me to my first baseball team. Slumber parties are the best at the grandparent’s house! Grandpa claims that the only thing he knows how to make is pancakes and homemade syrup. (Typical Mexican man! Love it!) We would fall asleep watching boxing together and wake up in the morning to grandpa making us pancakes. I love this man. I know the Lord is watching over our family and I am so glad they have better medication for Alzheimer’s patients today than they did five years ago.
